about me

I’m a qualified hypnotherapist and coach with a practitioner diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, and NLP Coaching Certificate from London Hypnotherapy Academy – having graduated with the academy’s Rising Star award for outstanding achievement. I am also a Member of the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP). I’m fully insured and have a DBS certificate (replaces the CRB check).

I qualified in reflexology in 2000, and my interest in the mind-body connection led me to extend my therapeutic practice into hypnotherapy and coaching. Using a variety of hypnotherapy techniques, I help people with emotional and physical issues such as unwanted habits, insomnia, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, depression, and chronic pain. I also offer life coaching to provide support and motivation with practical issues such as redundancy, making life changes, weight loss and achieving fitness goals.

As a professional musician, I am especially able to help people to fulful their creative and performance goals. This could be to overcome stage fright, let go of negative limiting beliefs, or to become more focused in order to maximise their potential. With my in-depth understanding of performance anxiety, I can also help those who have a fear of public speaking or presentation nerves. I always tailor sessions to an individual’s needs and can combine solution-focused hypnotherapy with cognitive-behavioural strategies and life-coaching.

Coaching for career development

Dealing with anger

My issues were anger, and my weight. I was tired and angry all the time, and I wanted to be the person that I was before my anger took over. My life is much better now – I am calmer and I love myself more. A 10-year problem solved in an hour

I saw Caroline to work on my comfort eating. I had been trying to deal with the symptoms of the problem over 10 years, trying to build better habits, but without much success. It was causing potential health problems, and not controlling the habits was causing worse mental and emotional problems. I went to Caroline almost as a last resort, not entirely believing hypnotherapy would work. I had one session lasting an hour, and we got right down to exactly why I was comfort eating. Since then, instead of struggling with impulses to eat sugary foods, I have no interest in them at all. I feel happier and more effective, as I am not wasting energy and headspace on trying to be ‘good’; I am also feeling healthier. Hypnotherapy in pregnancy

Caroline tailored an audio session for me when I was expecting my first child and was very nervous about the birthing experience. She came up with a brilliant programme that I listened to repeatedly, which involved calming breathing techniques, visualisation and positive affirmations. I can’t speak highly enough of how it helped my nerves. As I got closer to my due date it became apparent a c-section would be safest. On the morning I was booked in I found myself petrified. I listened to Caroline’s audio and it literally rescued me from a blind panic. The breathing techniques and visualisation helped bring me to a relaxed state where I felt able to get in the car and go to the hospital, then carried me through to theatre. Making major life changes

I originally came to Caroline to reduce my alcohol intake as I knew this was affecting various aspects of my life. Since then, I haven’t had a single urge to drink alcohol, especially when in social environments when I thought I might struggle the most.

Managing chronic pain

I had three sessions of hypnotherapy with Caroline to help reduce my chronic pain. My first session began with a thorough consultation where Caroline took the time to understand the issues I was facing. As I am familiar with meditation and mindfulness I thought I knew what hypnosis would be like but I was very pleasantly surprised. Caroline guided me into a deeply relaxed trance like state – I felt very peaceful and even euphoric at times! After my first session I felt more alert and awake despite having a broken sleep the night before.

During my next two sessions, Caroline really focused on the key issues I was facing, and used the information I had given her in my consultation to tailor hypnotherapy to my specific needs. Caroline used a variety of techniques including visualisation, which I found very easy to imagine. After each session I noticed an improvement in my pain levels and deep sense of relaxation. Finding inner strength

I wished to gain greater understanding of what I would like from my life and to find strength within myself to feel better about who I am, and move on from difficult relationship memories. Helping exam performance

Which conditions can hypnotherapy treat?

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe state of absorbed focus, rather like when you are engrossed in music or a film. Your subconscious mind becomes more receptive to suggestion and change, and it doesn’t matter whether you reach a light or a deeper state as it will still absorb what it needs to. Hypnosis encourages the subconscious mind to mobilise its own resources and look more deeply to resolve anything that is holding you back.

Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe and there are no harmful side effects. When used by a professionally trained and skilled therapist the benefits are long lasting and often permanent.

Hypnotherapy has proven benefits where the cause of the problem is not generally known, or all else has failed – examples include losing an unwanted habit, performance or exam nerves, and depression and anxiety. Can you tell me about some of the techniques you use?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the basis of the hypnotherapy approach of the same name, and focuses on unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours which can interact and ‘snowball’. It has been clinically proven to help with conditions such as depression and insomnia.

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is based on the techniques of the American psychiatrist and psychologist Milton Erickson, who specialised in medical hypnosis and took the approach that the unconscious mind is creative and solution-generating.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ method, and I tend to incorporate a mixture of techniques with an overall solution-focused approach to best tailor treatment to you as an individual.

What will hypnosis feel like for me?

You are in full control the whole time. First we drop down from the conscious – which is only 10% of the mind – into the subconscious. Now we are addressing the whole person, 100% of the mind, rather than just treating the symptoms. I will help guide you into a state of relaxation where your attention may stay focused on what I am saying, or may drift away, or perhaps a bit of both. I will then return you to normal consciousness and you will be fully alert and re-energised, ready to continue with the rest of your day.

How long will it take, and what do I need to do?

Our sessions will be a co-creative process where we work together towards whatever your definition of a successful outcome is. While sometimes only one or two sessions are needed to achieve this, everyone is different and there are no guarantees – we are complex beings, and symptoms which may have been present for many years may realistically take closer to 4-6 sessions to reach a resolve. This will require some commitment from you in order to succeed, and there may be some ‘homework’ (for example, keeping a food/sleep/exercise diary, depending on what you have come for). I will also teach you self-hypnosis so you can take this skill away with you to use any time.
